Why do bad things happen to good people?

(This was written at 3:00am. Please forgive the rambling and lack of coherency)

It's the age-old question. You have wonderful people that do everything right, and bad things happen to them. What's up with that?

There is a family in Chicago, that has a wonderful set of parents and four gorgeous children (I know this because the mother is my sister). Last night, my parents and I went down to visit them at 9:30pm. We dropped my mother off at my sister's at 11:00 and drove to Children's Hospital to visit my brother-in-law. He was there with my niece - his 6-year-old daughter - who had been diagnosed with Leukemia just a few hours earlier.

Bad things don't happen to good people. Everything HaShem does is for the best. It's just sometimes very difficult to understand.

Update (10/11/2006): My niece's name is Rena Sima bas Danya Penina.

Warm Fuzzies.

I'm trying to decide what gave me the biiger warm, fuzzy feeling:

1) A 63 year old benching on Lulav and Esrog for the first time in his life in my Sukkah

or

2) Him asking if he could borrow an English language sefer on Hilchat Shabbat and Yom Tov.

or quite possibly being told by somone that they didn't know "Jews like you existed in this neighborhood" (by which he meant non-cliquey japs.
