"Jewish" is NOT a race!
Okay, I'm a bit irritated. Israel is starting a Baseball League and "Jewish-American professional ball players would be eligible for the team". "Being Jewish is not a race because Jews do not share one common ancestry or biological distinction. People of many different races have become Jewish people over the years." (about.com) While it's easy enough to blame this on a mis-entry in wikipedia, it's also being reported on the radio, including on sites such as 1010-WINS (although it's not on 1010wins.com as of this posting).

I'm not sure why you are so irritated.
Do we refer to white Americans as "White-Americans" or black Americans as "Black-Americans"?
I don't think the hyphen is there because of race or even nationality, rather it's there because the group in questions wishes to make the association known.
That's why some Americans call themselves "African-American" or "Italian-American" even though neither of those designations are racial, but purely national.
If Jewish individuals want to make their religious affiliation known as important by calling themselves "Jewish-American" I don't have a problem with it. Certainly not any more than if someone wanted to call himself "Catholic-American" or "Sports Player-American".
I wouldn't be bothered if they had said "Jewish-Israelis". My point is that Judaism is a religion, not a race.
I'm irritated by the fact that a non race can yell racism (and 5they do it every chance they get)... jewish is not, has never been nor will it ever be a race. it is religion and like all religion it should be scoffed at, ridiculed and destroyed....
I couldn't agree with you more! I am getting so very annoyed at people labelling their ethnicity as 'Jewish'. It's like saying my ethnicity is 'Catholic'.
There are black jews, white jews, hispanic jews - with a sector so ethnically diverse, how can they call themselves a race?
